Can I Have a Ride on the Posturing Wheel?

What? Christopher bounded into the room a couple of days ago. “Dad? Can I go for a ride on a posturing wheel?”

“What’s a posturing wheel, Christopher?

“It’s a special chair that spins you around!”

“Where did you see this, Christopher?”

“On Kipper! Just now! Dad? Can I?”

“Um, I have no idea what that is, son. Let me figure it out and we’ll see, ok?”

“But it’s on Kipper!”

“Ok, then. Next time Kipper comes on, tell me before the posturing wheel comes on and I’ll see it for myself.”

Satisfied, Christopher said, “Ok, Dad,” and walked out of the room.

Oh, so it’s on a Kipper show. Y’know, Kipper the dog:
The dog with the slipper, that's Kipper. Kipper the dog.

I decide the posturing wheel must be some weird British thing I’ve never heard of before. I know a bit about British culture, but there are admittedly many things I’ve never been exposed to. Perhaps Kipper and Tiger went on a tour of the Marquis de Sade museum and had some fun rides. Who knows? It’s a British kids show. If you’ve ever watched the morning programming on Sky One, you already know what I mean.

Fast forward to today. I’ve fed the kids, sent them off to watch a movie, and was just starting my dinner. “Dad! Come quick! It’s coming on!”

“What’s coming on?” I ask, walking over to the TV room.

“Look! The post-try wheel!”

I look and there’s Pig’s younger brother, Arnold, taking a spin on a pottery wheel and having, what looks to Christopher like, and incredibly fun time.

“That’s a pottery wheel! Oh! That makes much more sense. But Christopher, that isn’t a ride.”

Christopher doesn’t quite understand. After all, there on the screen is a pig taking a spin on a pottery wheel. “Son, that’s for making clay pots and stuff. It’s really neat. Have you never seen anyone using a pottery wheel?”

“No. How does it work?”

“Y’know what, I’ll find a movie of someone using a pottery wheel. It’s pretty neat.”

So here we go. And no, I’m not going to use the sequence from Ghost. Sheesh, people.
