For the sake of full disclosure, reading Story of the World volume 1 is boring me to tears so we’re skimming it now. I read them any sections I think are memorable (hanging gardens, library of Ninevah, anything Greek) but if it’s just so-and-so conquered so-and-so then we’re skipping that part. It’s boring, it’s war, and we’re not going to remember all these names of cranky egomaniac kings/emperors/etc. I think we’ve read enough of the conquering to get the point so we’re moving on – I want to start volume 2 this summer/fall so we’re going to pick up the pace for volume one. (This is our second go-round which is probably part of the problem, next go round in four years I’m going to make the kids read it themselves. 🙂 Then I’ll just do the enrichment with them and that will go much faster than me trying to keep a two year old entertained while nursing a baby and trying to read a chapter to the older kids.)
