Library Safety Class

This afternoon our wonderful library had a guest presentation from the local shelter, Friends of the Family. They had books to check out, puppets, and a video about personal safety. While geared to kids in 1st and 2nd grade, it was great for our 3 year old up through our 10 year old (as big kids can always use a review, right?) They talked about the three rules (Use your words, Run away, Tell someone) and different situations (strangers, hurt, touch) and types of touch (good, bad, confusing.) I like that they also covered the difference between surprises (good things we’ll eventually tell) and secrets (something we don’t tell.)

Especially in light of some recent concerns with a couple of our kids this was a well timed class. We’re also reviewing our Kid Power curriculum.
